What is Tobiko made of?
As you may have guessed, tobiko is a type of fish roe (or caviar). It comes from flying fish, and while it looks similar to salmon roe (known as ikura in Japan), the eggs are much smaller and differ in texture.

Roe is the fully ripe egg masses of fish and certain marine invertebrates, such as sea urchins. As a seafood it is used both as a cooked ingredient in many dishes and as a raw ingredient.
